Premarital Counseling

Investing in your relationship is a great way to be proactive and learn how to avoid many of the traps and pitfalls that couples typically run into. According to a survey published in the Journal of Family Psychology, couples with premarital education reported higher levels of marital satisfaction and experienced a 30 percent decline in the likelihood of divorce over five years. Most couples wish that they had gone through some sessions before marriage, and highly encourage their friends to reach out to a therapist!

In premarital sessions we will address communication styles, conflict management, how to build and keep emotional closeness with your spouse, provide helpful information about physical intimacy, and ask any unanswered questions that have not yet been fully addressed. We will talk about topics that are frequent areas of conflict for couples and I will guide you through the process. Every couple who comes for premarital counseling has different needs, but overall most couples who come in for preventative measures usually find that six 80 minute sessions provide a strong start. Following the initial sessions, many couples keep this strong start by continuing monthly sessions their first year of marriage.
